On Entertaining Baby | 6 Month Old

Taking care of baby can be a little daunting sometimes. Thinking of how to entertain your 6 month old might get your head spinning. Here are a few simple activities that will engage your little. Do keep in mind that at this age everything will likely end up in their mouths. Have fun!

  • Play peek-a-boo in front of a mirror, babies love their own reflection.
  • Blow bubbles while counting and popping them.
  • Entice baby with stacking cups or blocks, make sure they're colorful.
  • Babys love colorful illustrations so wip out those board books.
  • Place a stringed toy in front of baby and watch them use their newly acquired rolling over skills and attempt to grab.
  • Place colorful scarves into an empty paper towel roll then let your little pull them out one by one in amazement.
  • Fill a basket or small bucket with random (safe) odds and ends for fun discovery play. Focus on color, sound and texture. You might use plastic lids, plastic cups, colorful fruits like lemons or oranges, a bottle of sprinkles they can shake. Remember, nothing too small, pointy or glass to be on the safe side.
  • Sit your baby in front of a turned over pan and hand them a plastic spatula. They'll turn into instant drummers.
  • Place pom poms and dried beans, lentils or rice in a water bottle for a D.I.Y. rattle. Make sure to duck tape the top for safety.
  • Go for a walk! Sounds obvious but babies get use to routine. A daily walk around the same time will be something they look forward to.
